Side comment: I wonder why progress in AI is being frequently framed as a competition between nations. Why does UK need to outdo USA in AI? Why does USA need to out-AI China?
My simplistic understanding is that most countries have determined that AI is a zero-sum game (apologies, AI is many things, but it is NOT a game) and that 'winning the race' is the most critical thing. In the words of Ricky Bobby - if you are not first, you are last .....
I don't agree with this point of view. I would be far more excited to see greater collaboration among nations on the most powerful technology humans have ever created, in a way that enhances life for us all. Unfortunately, my POV and my voice count very little, so we are where we are.
Your question is valid, but unfortunately, it lives in the realm of human nature. Brilliant but flawed, let's encourage more of the positive wherever we can.
